The Perfect Housewarming Gift
When it comes to a housewarming gift, you can’t go past a highly-coveted home fragrance. Elevate their new space and add a little cosiness to their home with a scented candle, available in a variety of fragrances and personalities. Try to match the scent to the energy of the new home or the giftees—wanderlust personalities will love exotic fragrances and travel-inspired scents, while those with a green thumb might find inspiration in a fresh, floral-scent candle. Why not also include a matching room spray, diffuser or essential oil to help take the aromatic experience to another level?
Remember Double Denim of the ’80s? Rework the Trend
“Denim on denim might seem a little tricky to wear, but with one simple styling tip, this iconic trend will be your new favourite go-to,” says Rhys. It’s as simple as creating contrast, like in Rhys’ look where he pairs a chambray shirt and deep indigo denim by Polo Ralph Lauren.
For an edgy take on double denim, Levi’s is an icon. The brand’s straight-leg, rigid-denim 501 jeans are even celebrating their 150th anniversary in 2023. Here, Rhys has styled the 501s with a logo tee, plaid shirt and sherpa denim jacket. Or you could try contrasting black jeans by Calvin Klein with a denim jacket. The slim fit of the jeans balances out the oversized tee and faux shearling-trimmed denim jacket – just add a pair of Mallet leather sneakers for a minimalist look.
Whether you lean into rock’n’roll energy or keep it classic, Rhys’ interpretation of double denim is the perfect combination for keeping warm when socialising with friends this winter.
Embrace Preppy Style with ’90s Denim
Inspired by the runway’s resurgence of the ’90s, Rhys suggests adding collegiate, sporty codes to your wardrobe.
At Tommy Jeans, “the blue wash makes these jeans super easy to style with the brand’s iconic navy, red and white,” says Rhys, as he reaches for a satin bomber jacket, crew neck and sneakers embellished with Tommy Hilfiger’s signature insignia. Or for a nautical aesthetic, Rhys looks to Gant. The logo sweater and slim-fit jeans are winter wardrobe staples – and get a trending, streetwear update with a statement puffer and retro leather sneakers.
By working preppy colours and smart layers into your wardrobe, you’ll be all set for weekends spent outside with friends and family.
Master Smart Casual Denim and Relaxed Fashion
“Most of us think of denim as a casual, weekend essential, but with a few clever styling tricks, denim can look polished, too,” says Rhys.
Take these slim-fit jeans from Country Road, for example. When Rhys layers on a classic navy tee, crisp shirt and leather sneakers, “it’s an easy, pulled-together look for any occasion, from date night to special occasions.”
For weekends away where you want to feel comfortable yet smart, Rhys recommends R.M.Williams. “The straight-leg jeans are incredibly versatile, so you can pack light. Just bring a few fleece sweaters and a wind-resistant puffer vest to change it up,” he says. And to bring it all together, he adds a vintage-look, chronograph watch by Tissot and R.M.William’s classic ‘Craftsman’ boots, which are timeless investments season after season.
Embrace Australian Denim and Streetwear for a Fresh Take
If you’re already well-versed in denim, Rhys has plenty of inspiration to help you bring the relaxed feeling to the rest of your casual wardrobe.
At Australian label Nana Judy, this season sees otherwise formal trousers dressed-down into casualwear. “The waistband feels formal,” says Rhys, “but by swapping your usual shirt for a relaxed white tee and shacket, you’re ready to go from desk to Friday night.”
On the streetwear front, cargo pants are making a big return. “This style by Superdry is incredibly versatile, and is set to be a staple this season,” says Rhys. If you’re heading out with friends, style your cargo pants with a tee and open shirt to break up the baggy silhouette.
Another trend gaining momentum is neutral shades – like denim in flax, sourdough and stone. This season, Rhys contrasts Swanndri’s minimalist jeans with the textures of a cable knit and plaid jacket.
